Hiraeth is a complex welsh word that forms the backbone of my final collection, explored throughout as it relates to my experiences with the idea of 'home'. Nostalgia and homesickness are most often used to make sense of Hiraeth in English. I see this as an oversimplification. This project explores its relevance in terms of my unusual childhood as well as its importance within Welsh history. Silhouettes and design details throughout represent a journey, using asymmetric hem lines and a curved edge 'motif' to visualise displacement and movement. Having had conflicting feelings towards my childhood this project allowed me to reflect and translate feelings of instability and uncertainty into my work. Whilst also holding onto the vibrance, colour and chaos of growing up.
