‘Homegrown Comfort’ is a tactile interior collection, themed around a cottage kitchen-garden lifestyle, depicting scenes of fresh produce and kitchen cooking, alongside playful characterisations of my cats Arthur and Kamari. Studio Ghibli’s illustrative animation style has been a dominant influence, inspiring my combined use of food and cat character motifs. I based my theme on ideas of comfort in relation to the outdoors, as well as the warmth of rustic home settings. The collection is illustrative in style, primarily created through oil pastel drawings digitally printed on natural fibres, and tactile products created through hand-dyed punch needling and ceramic. Handwritten typographic elements also work to add graphic contrast throughout, and act as a form of minimal storytelling through character expressions and personal thoughts.
