This project is rooted in the Scottish landscape – both in its visual character and the natural materials it offers. My inspiration is taken from locally found plants – teasles and heather – from which two key moods emerged. One is soft, calm and muted, influenced by the gentle forms and tones of teasels and heather; the other bold, dramatic and wild, reflecting the rugged textures of the teasel and the striking unpredictability of Scotland’s scenery. The idea of Scotland as home sits at the heart of my work. After losing my dad in 2016, I found a sense of connection to him through written language and poetry, which compliments other aspects of my work. Incorporating sentimental words into my work allows me to create something deeply personal and meaningful. Sustainability underpins every stage of this project. It is important to me that this project is fully circular and traceable. All wool is sourced as locally as possible here in Scotland, using natural fibres which meet ethical and environmental standards. A lot of the wool used is totally undyed, the same colour fleece as the sheep, and others dyed naturally using plant materials. My intention is to produce work that is not only meaningful, but also durable and entirely natural. My work consists of a collection of knitted fabrics for functional fashion accessories providing warmth and comfort in the Scottish elements. Pieces are designed to connect the wearer with the landscape, be timeless, refined, and long lasting. Each piece is crafted with care, using high quality materials that reflect both the concept and values of this project.
