About
My fascination with glasswork started as a young girl visiting Malta, where I’d watch demonstrations of people blowing functional ware. This experience sparked a deep interest that led me to explore various glass techniques, including kiln casting and Pâte de Verre. The body of work I’ve recently created centres around my heritage and explores Islamic patterns. By delving into geometry and arabesque styles, I’ve developed motifs and archway-inspired designs that reflect both tradition and personal expression. Glass has become a medium through which I connect with my roots. I’m excited to share this evolving journey through my work.
This body of work is inspired by Islamic patterns and my Syrian heritage. I wanted to create something that resonates with the designs I grew up around, using glass. I explored Pâte de Verre with Turkish-inspired motifs in blue and green, achieving a textured effect. I also created layered illusions seen in Turkish mosques and Moroccan archways, using Fusion 360 to design patterns, 3D printing them, then kiln-casting with Bullseye and Gaffer glass. These works evoke tranquillity and remind me of childhood buildings. Through this process, I’ve honoured tradition while blending it with contemporary glass-making techniques.
