About
Pieter Genee (1994) is a Dutch-born, London based director. He just finished his Ma in documentary directing at the National Film and Television School. Recently he directed observational documentaries in regions across South Africa, Scotland and the Netherlands. His most recent film: ‘Khayelitsha’ won an 2023 One World Media Award and is currently nominated for a (student) Academy Award.Pieter is very interested in the aesthetics of mood, and finding stories where the place, person and past perfectly coalesce. He is a firm believer in careful considerations regarding representation in front and behind the camera.Besides non-fiction, Pieter has a strong foundation in commercial work and believes every brand has a story to tell. Before the NFTS, Pieter successfully graduated from the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht with a major in Communication and Media Design (Cum Laude), and completed a master level course in journalism (high-risk environments) with a GPA of 4.0.
In a small brick studio in one of Cape Town’s townships, two young painters work under the tutelage of an experienced mentor to become better painters, using art to deal with their trauma and create a better future for them and all those who come after them. Password for film with the judges.
