Mars Odyssey

Specialisms:

Genderless Menswear Apparel

‘Mars Odyssey’ is a world-making future fashion collection that envisions a future lifestyle on Mars and proposes possibilities of more sustainable and technology-engaged fashion. New spacesuits, wearable oxygen gear, and life support devices provide alternatives for outdoor human activities on Mars, as well as opportunities for bold self-expression. These pneumatic design prototypes have the potential for temperature control and air storage, combining style and innovation. The design engages distinctive details, unisex gender-fluid styles and avant-garde expressions with blended design development and exploration between the digital and physical. The collection is inspired and developed through “Zero-waste pattern” experimentation in 3d program Clo3D and physical draping. The collection engages multiple sustainability innovation methods, including zero-waste design, upcycling, streamlined production in 3D programs and using biodegradable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) across the whole collection. The key techniques in this collection are: 1) Air-tight inflatable-making pneumatic designs (including sonic welding/heat welding + heat-bond quilting), 2) Zero-waste design (3D pattern making/designing complementary patterns +upcycling / remaking) 3) Digital Print and Transfer Print graphic design. The key materials are TPU plastics, high-density scuba and heat-reactive colour-changing materials.
