About
With a keen interest in modelmaking and hands-on craft, I enjoy creating architecture that works closely with local communities and responds to existing structures. I’m interested in how each design decision affects the experience and use of a space, especially from the perspective of those who inhabit it. My work focuses on adaptability and process, using physical making to explore construction, assembly, and material understanding across all scales.
The Crewe Men in Sheds Workshop re-imagines the derelict Crewe Electricity Works – a mid-19th-century coal-fired power station that once served the historic Crewe Works. Organised as a sequence of interconnected manufacturing spaces that transition from cold/external to warm/internal environments, the workshop supports the production of ‘Outposts’: modular shed structures dispersed across other sites of industrial ruin and terrain vague in Crewe. These Outposts offer flexible, adaptable spaces that enable Men in Sheds members to connect more actively with the wider community. Echoing the ethos of both the Outposts and the Men in Sheds charity, the workshop is constructed using a series of repeatable structural ‘trees’. Materials such as oxidised timber and brass are chosen to express the patina of continued use, reflecting the evolving nature of the spaces and their users.
