About
Laura Maycroft is an award-winning Surface Pattern Designer & Illustrator with a versatile print hand-writing that ranges from conversational & illustrative to bold & graphic. Laura immerses herself in research; from the stories her prints tell to understanding the context in which they will be used. Laura’s work is often concerned with interesting places - drawing on her love of travel and its effect on wellbeing - especially in her confident use of colour. Her creative practice makes use of her knowledge of 19th-20th century art and design history and her fascination with making repeat patterns. She focuses on innovative approaches to drawing for print-making, illustrating in layers with technical application in mind. Laura has designed for a range of brands - with her prints appearing on beach towels, gift wrap, needlepoint kits and more - and she takes satisfaction seeing a concept through to a final product.
Celebrate the biophilic spaces designed by Sri Lankan architect Minnette De Silva - one of the first female architects to have her own practice in the 1940s - with this eclectic wallpaper & interior textiles collection. Explore the contrasts in her work; between geometric modernist forms, decorative features made by local artisans, and the lush tropical planting of her outdoor living spaces. Inspired by the grainy half-tone photographs and stylised architectural drawings & plans - that are sadly much of what remains of her work - this collection of wallpapers and hand-screenprinted fabrics mix artisanship and modernity. Influenced by mid-century prints and postcards, overprinting is explored to create secondary colours in a palette of peacock blues and clay pinks with pops of cobalt.
