Interested in the moment experience of the space.
Originating from research —— What socio-cultural narratives does miniature spatial design unveil across centuries? How might feminist perspectives reinterpret the domestic space? We conducted a critical study of Western and Asian dollhouses from the 17th to 21st centuries. Three core aspects were analyzed: spatial semiotics, spatial gendered distribution, and play mechanics. These lenses then informed the conceptualization of a neo-dollhouse possibility. Beginning with the seed of modular units, grounded in self-locking dovetail-joinery structures, guided by Eastern aesthetic philosophy and driven by feminist discourse, this project redefines the spatial language of Chinese toy bricks and a dollhouse of one’s own.
