Orikata Botanica is a textiles project that explores the delicate harmony between Japanese florals and the structured art of origami. Using a combination of fabric manipulation, digital processes, and folding techniques, the project blends the softness of natural, organic forms with the sharp precision of geometric structure. Central to this exploration is the influence of traditional Japanese motifs, particularly the symbolic meanings behind flowers such as cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums, and irises. These motifs are not only visual inspirations but carry deep cultural significance, which is carefully considered and embedded into the design process. Through this project, I aim to create a contemporary textile collection that pays tribute to the rich heritage of Japanese craftsmanship, while also showcasing innovation through modern textile techniques. The fusion of traditional symbolism with contemporary practice results in a visually striking and conceptually layered body of work. Ortika Botanica pushes the boundaries of conventional surface design by exploring how textile art can reflect both cultural meaning and structural beauty.
