About

I am a Furniture and Product Design graduate from Nottingham Trent University. As designers, we have the responsibility to consider a product's environmental impact, as this is largely decided during the design stage of the lifecycle of a product. The products that I design focus on longevity, keeping in mind emotional and physical durability and high quality craftsmanship.

Planche; an Oak and American Black Walnut board, enhances the experience of preparing whole spices at home. Constructed from two end grain boards, the product celebrates the natural grain pattern of the two timbers, while ensuring product longevity and durability. The design utilises offcuts of timber that are too small to be used in larger designs and otherwise a waste product from the furniture industry. Whole spices are prepared on the Oak surface and then swept into the mortar to undergo further processing. An Oak lemon squeezer allows marinades and dressings to be created and a Walnut bread board doubles as a presentation surface for culinary creations. The form of the pestle generates a primal interaction between the user and their ingredients, taking inspiration from the ergonomics of Palaeolithic tools. A choice of pestle hand positions accommodates a myriad of ingredients.
