About
hola! I'm macla, a Hamburg-based product designer from Colombia. My areas of work are influenced by social, environmental and cultural aspects, which result in structured projects in which I also lay an aesthetic and narrative value. I have carried out projects within exhibition, visual, furniture and design for social good, amongst others.
Proactive design in the context of houselessness
A permanent place to sleep can offer stability, comfort, privacy and well-being. This is why houseless people face major challenges on a daily basis. This raises the question: to what extent can design have a positive impact on houseless people and their support systems? This project examines government and social support in Germany with a focus on postal services for people without a home address. Research and participant observation in day facilities in Weimar and Leipzig form the basis for a solution within an existing system. The result is a flexible space consisting of one or two modules in which users can work on their mail independently and without being disturbed. One module serves as a privacy screen, while the other offers work space at different heights. This approach optimises processes, promotes the independence and well-being of users and reduces the workload on employees.
