Project theme The history of schools in the UAE demonstrates the nation’s commitment to education. Early classes were informal gatherings while today, schools in the UAE have a well-established, comprehensive education system. This system has undergone a transition, emphasizing education as a base of its development, and creating welcoming and energy-efficient learning settings is crucial as the UAE expands. It is widely considered one of the most advanced countries in the world, but portions of the nation are still left untouched and their pace of life is far from being comparable to the urban center. This study focuses on the balanced integration of tradition and innovation in school design by incorporating traditional passive cooling methods which have been employed for many years in desert areas. Designing in rural areas means designing buildings that adapt to the harsh local climate. Further exploring the social and educational benefits emphasizes how these design choices can create better learning spaces, foster a feeling of cultural identity, and instill sustainable values in young people. Site Location The proposed site for this project is in Margham Desert, Dubai. The area offers a unique landscape and setting for the project, presenting opportunities for innovative design and development within the context of Dubai’s dynamic environment. The project aims to create a community hub that celebrates creativity and innovation while embracing the natural beauty of the desert surroundings and building according to this climate. The site is located in a neighborhood in Margham to allow easy access for pedestrians within walking distance. It is also located near a mosque. Having a quiet surrounding secluded from the main urban center. Project Design The project will offer a mix of activities for learning but also create an environment to bring the community closer together. Overall, the project in Margham aims to create a thriving, sustainable, and culturally rich community that embraces innovation, creativity, and learning while showcasing the characteristics of Dubai’s desert environment away from its urban environment. Creating a momentum to match the surroundings. The project aims to promote that learning can happen anywhere by providing adaptable learning units distributed throughout the city.
