About

I am Daisy Sleiman, a young contemporary Middle Eastern fashion designer. I grew up in the Emirates, immersing myself in the vibrant cultural tapestry of the region. My fashion journey began at the Lebanese American University in Beirut, where I embarked on my formal education in the field. Later, I had the opportunity to expand my horizons by joining the Paris College of Arts in Paris, further refining my skills and earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design.Paris became the backdrop for most of my professional experiences. I had the privilege of working with esteemed companies such as Stellar Paris, Rouje Paris, Y/Project, and Le Cavalier. Each role allowed me to delve deeper into the realm of fashion, gaining invaluable insights and forging connections within the industry. These experiences were not limited to Paris alone; I also had the pleasure of working in Beirut with Fadwa Baalbaki.Fashion, to me, is more than just fabric and design—it is a powerful cultural message.  By infusing elements from my upbringing, my travels, and my encounters with various cultures, I strive to create garments that transcend boundaries.Throughout my fashion journey, I constantly challenge myself to think critically about the social and environmental consequences of my choices. I advocate for transparency in the supply chain and strive to create long-lasting garments that promote a more sustainable and circular fashion economy. In my design process, I embrace a holistic approach that leans heavily toward ethics. I believe that ethical considerations should be given equal weight to sustainability in the fashion industry. By incorporating ethical principles into every aspect of my work, I aim to create a positive impact on both the planet and the people involved in the production process. As I continue to evolve as a fashion designer, I am driven by the desire to leave a lasting impact on the industry and to empower individuals through the art of clothing. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to embrace their unique identities, celebrate diversity, and express themselves authentically.

The looks curated for the Fall 2022/2023 collection translate what it means to have gone through only what humans can go through. The choice of the black color mainly showcases the closeness we've had to death and the funerals we've had to attend. It revolves around the losses Lebanon had to endure on August 4th 2020. The collection is a personal anecdote put into textiles and fabric prints. The print included also comes from a sin we face in the Islamic culture: being inked has always been a gesture of unfaithfulness. It is about the decoration of one’s already built-in skin and beauty. The inspiration came from residing in the United Arab Emirates and seeing how Henna is simply a decoration of one’s skin and is not looked at as unfaithful which is both contradictory yet beautiful. I sketched the Henna myself with small symbols incorporating the Seven Deadly Sins. The beige finishing resulting from the burning of 100% Black Cotton reflects the remains behind a modern day explosion. Bondaweb, soluble paper and couture stitching were all incorporated to give an elegant feel to a harsh topic.
