About
Jana Spiekermann is a Danish fashion designer, whose work is both wearable and conceptual. Jana’s advanced design and pattern cutting skills, combined with her creative eye and imagination results in highly unique garments. She experiments with creating new fabrics, mixing silicon with mesh that produces soft yet structured pieces.With an already successful brand, SPKRMNN, Jana’s poetic and emotive designs have attracted commissions from artists including FOXGUNN, AR/CO, Mia Berrin from POMPOMSQUAD, Ana Perrote from Hinds and Lillvi. Jana’s work has also been featured at multiple events such as the GRAMMY awards, Glastonbury Festival, and Covaleda Festival alongside multiple international and UK based concerts.Her design philosophy is informed by her experience with depression and knowledge that the arts industry has a tendency to glamorise and normalise mental health issues. Jana is passionate about creating awareness of the reality of human experience with depression. Her designs are beautiful manifestations of emotion.
Inspired by the experience of depression, the designs reflect the sensation of discomfort and melancholy. Bows and ropes pull at white fabric, whilst asymmetrical draping twists material around the body. Silicon mixed with blue mesh produces a wet-look fabric that clings to the skin, and a padded duvet-inspired garment envelopes the wearer, finally providing comfort. Subtle embroidered text features in each garment, with lines taken from a poem by Caitlin Siehl, titled It’s Not Your Job. The words become entangled with the body of the wearer, wrapping her up with their sentiment. With bedroom inspired materials of natural cottons, linen and silk, this collection manifests the journey of finding a way to move through life, taking the sanctuary of your bedroom with you.
