Hi :) My name is Kenan van Kooij and I recently graduated from my 3-year fashion design diploma at The Design Academy of Fashion in Cape Town, South Africa. I have now set sail to Europe in hopes to secure a career within the fashion industry. I am a passionate designer who focuses on Avant-Garde fashion design. I do this by bringing close attention to detail and silhouettes. I am a hardworking creative thinker and strive to put the best of myself in my work. I enjoy creating garments with innovative construction techniques and close attention to finishing techniques. My skills include Fashion design, Sketching & Illustration, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, Close attention to detail, Photography, Creative Thinking, Good social skills, Pattern-making, Good sewing and construction skills. THE MAMA/MOTHER CAMPAIGN The day we shot this film was one of the happiest days of my life. Creating this project over the last year - with as many challenges that came along with it - has been the most empowering, fulfilling and emotive experience. For this project to work - I had to allow myself to be vulnerable and unveiled. The idea behind SWANBOOIJ came from a place of severe self-hatred within my identity. To be able to share this with the world without shame is truly special and I owe my heart to anyone that supports it. This collection is taking my power back and allowing others who have experienced the same to transition into their true form. The transformation of a vulnerable tiny hatchling, into a huge white monarch of our waterways. I created SWANBOOIJ for the boys who lived a youth trying to fit in with other boys. I created SWANBOOIJ for the boys who grew up scared with no where to turn to. I created SWANBOOIJ for little me. Tomorrow my egg will hatch and SWANBOOIJ will swarm the lakes for the first time.
