About

I'm Jahnvi Deshlahra, a fashion design student at the University of Central Lancashire with a background in personal styling and image consultancy from Pearl Academy, Bangalore. My creative journey began with a handmade décor and gifts business, where I developed a passion for storytelling through craftsmanship. Since then, I’ve worked as a freelance stylist and shopper, collaborating with clients globally and assisting on editorial shoots. My design approach blends traditional Indian art and textiles with contemporary silhouettes, often drawing inspiration from Rajasthani architecture, blue pottery, and Pichwai painting. I'm especially interested in sustainable fashion, tactile textiles, and translating cultural heritage into modern design narratives. Currently, I’m looking for internships and opportunities to grow as a designer, contribute fresh ideas, and learn from experienced industry professionals.

This project investigates the intersection of traditional Indian textile practices and contemporary sustainable design through the lens of Khadi denim and Dabu block printing. Central to the exploration is the selvage-the uncut, woven edge of fabric that is structurally integral yet oiten discarded in mass production. In this context. the selvage becomes a metaphor for overlooked strength and resilience within both material culture and crait heritage.
