My name is Chiara, I am 21 years old, and I am currently finishing my final year of BA in Fashion Design at ESMOD PARIS, where I will continue my education at London College of Fashion for the MA in Costume Design for Performance.My brand ROSATI uses fashion as a medium of art, with a sculptural approach to volume. My ideas have always been heavily influenced by cultural references, ecological integrity, and social justice, denouncing the issues. I always incorporate my personal values and beliefs which continue to develop the more I discover and practice through a positive light. I focus on fully immersing myself in a concept to understand it thoroughly through research & social experiments. I believe that the heart of all my artwork is to generate a reaction, whether it's debatable or controversial. Female empowerment, inclusivity, breaking gender norms/social norms, sustainability are major influences in my work.The unknown is where my source of inspiration ripens which is constant movement. My costume is designed for Hermia (my adaptation of "A Midsummer Nights Dream", William Shakespeare). It represents a gradual breaking free from societal rules, focusing on gender stereotypes, particularly how women are portrayed through society’s gaze. My key research behind this concept is how social aspects affect gender traits and contribute to gender gaps. I interpreted her soundings as an internal state, a subconscious realm where societal pressures and prejudices are confronted. It becomes a space for reflection and confusion. Hermia's costume represents her transformation within this inner mind. Its organic shape symbolises her journey, and the neon fuchsia, historically associated with femininity, challenges these stereotypes that have been manufactured sine the 1940's. Her hair, intertwining with her thoughts, illustrates the merging of personal identity with societal expectations. I aimed to create a powerful visual costume that resonates with contemporary discussions about gender equality and societal progress.
