About

Abhishek Tuiwala(1994) is a Sculptor, drawing and installation artist with B.F.A. (Sculpture) from V.N.S.G.U., Surat, Gujarat; M.F.A. (Sculpture) from Pratt Institution, Brooklyn, New York. I have been part of many online and in-person exhibitions conducted worldwide in India, the United States and South Korea. I have Attended various sculpture workshops on Clay Modeling, Moulding, Castings and carvings. I also received the scholarship, grants and many national and international awards for my work. About my work: The essence of humanity is all about culture, ethics and identity, which helps us understand people. Every human being is different yet the same. My compositions are the observation of people around me, including myself. My recent works are based on cultural disparities. Being an immigrant of New York, I always compare my lifestyle, which I was living before in India. My research study's primary aim and objective are to investigate the effect of lifestyle changes between two cultures disparities. Due to many surprises, I felt great joy and struggle in adopting new lifestyles. However, I have always tried to define lifestyle through my creative artwork, keeping aside all the matters. I have always tried to convert all the unfavorable circumstances into possibilities and have accepted them as opportunities.

13in X 8in X 4in | Brass, Stainless Steel Until the age of 25, I was born and brought up in Surat city in India. Also, I did my schooling and earned my undergraduate degree in the same. Living with family for 25 years of my life, leaving my family and friends behind, and moving to the United States, was a completely new beginning for me, considering I have never lived independently before. This work symbolizes the steps, representing that I had not lived anywhere besides the city of Surat for 25 years. During the initial phases, adjusting to the different culture in the United States was highly challenging. The double-height and narrow space of the first step in the sculpture present cultural diversity. With the gradual passing of time, I grew more comfortable in the city. With a gradual change in the hight of the steps and more comprehensive steps, this has been indicated, moving to a standard step height. The Pawn on the top represents the scenario perfectly. Like in chess, once Pawn reaches a certain point, he can be whatever he wants. The perspective in the sculpture describes the same.
