About
Tsim is a London-based Bio-designer and artist, originally from Hong Kong. Since received training at MA Biodesign and BA Visual Arts, her practice emphasizes biotic material, bioethics, and environmental justice. She is fond of exploring the inner connections and conflicts In front of the exploitation and degradation of tin terms of the climate crisis and biodiversity. In the natural world in the Anthropocene, there is no way we could be exceptional from such ecological chaos. She has been transferring her questions into critical kinetic installation, biomaterial-based sculpture, video, and performance, and inviting the audience to engage in the co-learning experience.
Working with the bacteria, this project is to create innovative sweets which consist of wasted pure copper from E-waste. Through a bioleaching process, our bacteria assistants extract and purify the pure copper from e-waste as well as clean enough to return to human body and nature. Copper is one of the essential minerals the human needs and this sweet will benefit our body as a supplement. This project aims to raise the possibility of connecting the material flow of the metals between the industrial system and our future food chain, as a circular system. If there is alternatives of managing E-waste, E-waste is no longer just industrial obsolete, instead, generating a new food resource that humans need. To combat E-waste is a long journey. We can start imagining our sustainable future with a small but sweet bite.
