About
Hello, my name is Yang Xiao. I have been studying and practicing product design for six years. I completed my undergraduate studies in Product Design in Shanghai and am currently pursuing my master’s degree at the Royal College of Art. I specialize in product design and enjoy integrating it with other disciplines such as digital media, ceramics, and jewelry design. Additionally, I have been learning CMF design (Color, Material, and Finish) in a commercial setting.
As people age, their mobility decreases, and homes often fill with medical-looking assistive devices. This project observes how older adults interact with furniture, focusing on the transition from sitting to standing. It aims to design support that feels natural without disrupting the warmth of home. The coffee table is formed from one continuous line, creating a light yet stable structure where form and function merge. What seems decorative at first becomes essential support over time, symbolizing flexibility, growth, and a balance of practicality with modern aesthetics that appeal to all ages.
