About

My name is Amelia, I specialise in embroidery and bio-textiles which are led by my deep curiosity for material, innovation and sustainable design; these core values have been pivotal in guiding my graduate collection ‘Whisps of Light’. My work explores the link between natural light and enhanced wellbeing, with samples capturing subtle, shifting contours. Harmonious layers create immersive interior hangings for a high-end market, offering balance and escape for customers seeking alignment with the earth’s natural powers. Responsible design is fundamental to my practice. Interning with the sustainable studio Vin + Omi during LFW 24 provided technical experience with the latest fabric innovations and inspired personal exploration of natural dyes and biomaterials. In addition, involvement in the ‘QAA & Liberty Collaborative Enhancement Project’ led me to incorporate generate Ai within my inspiration. Moving forward, I aim to bring an innovative approach to industry and continue developing my textile skills for sustainable design.

“Wisps of Light” explores the connection between natural light and enhanced wellbeing, drawing on research that links exposure to shifting sunlight with improvements in cognitive processing, focus, and circadian rhythm. Through experimentation with cyanotypes, light photography, and generative AI, I’ve captured the ephemeral beauty of changing contours, twisted forms, and delicate gradients. These qualities are translated into textiles through processes such as digital print, devoré, biomaterials, and 3D embroidery. By combining the transparent qualities of silk with the opacity of embroidered stitch, I’ve created samples that cast subtle, rippling shadows and echo the rhythm of changing light. Tonal colour combinations evoke calmness, grounding, and escapism, I'm embracing how these hues will naturally fade and morph over time, creating new sun-bleached patterns. Designed for immersive interior hangings and room-dividing screens, the collection is suitable for a high-end market, offering a sense of balance and retreat for customers seeking alignment with the earth’s natural energies. Responsible design is central to my practice; I’ve used natural dyes, biodegradable threads, and root-based biomaterials to preserve a sense of softness while reducing the chemical impact of textile production and disposal.
