Wisps of Light explores the connection between natural light and enhanced wellbeing, drawing on research that links our exposure to shifting sunlight with improvements in cognitive processing, focus, and circadian rhythm. Through experimentation with cyanotypes, light photography, and generative AI, my project captures the ephemeral beauty of changing contours, twisted forms, and delicate gradients. My collection of textile samples are designed for immersive, large scale wall hangings and room dividing screens that will nurture feelings of harmony, balance and tranquillity within a wellness retreat interior. The collection is suitable for a high-end market and tailored to be appealing for a millennial customer seeking self-reflection and alignment with the earth’s natural energies. By combining the transparent qualities of silk with the opacity of embroidered stitch, I’ve created samples that cast subtle, rippling shadows and echo the rhythm of light as it changes throughout different times of day and season. Each sub-collection within my project has its own tonal colour palette and is designed for a specific space and activity within a wellness retreat. The colours are carefully balanced and selected using psychology to maximise the benefit for wellbeing and emotional regulation while corresponding to the atmosphere that is best suited to each wellness activity.
