Xingrui Xu (b.1995; China, Kunshan) lives and works in Chicago, Illinois. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, his MFA in Ceramics from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2022. Xingrui expands and develops an engagement with ceramics, paintings, and the conditions for its contemporary practice.
In texts and poetry of ancient China, the Yellow Springs refers to the subterranean realm of the dead and was thus "the imagined location of innumerable graves." The slabs and the burial objects, which have lost their original appearance, are a record of the tomb. These slabs are unknown, unreadable. What is undeniable is that they were once gorgeous.
