About
I am a jewellery designer using natural materials such as Tagua nuts and Avocado stones to explore and develop my carving designs to turn these, generally unused materials, into contemporary wearable jewellery. For this collection, my designs were inspired by my garden from India, that was recently removed from my family home. The project is titled 'Gidaa' which directly translates to 'plants' in my native language.
Gidaa ( gid- aa) - meaning ‘plants’ Exploring the beauty of sustainable materials, Aadya evokes memories of the plants from her garden in India. Inspired by the perseverance shown by plants pushing through man-made construction, Aadya carves the natural shapes of vines, flowers and leaves from home onto avocado stones and tagua nuts, also known as vegetable ivory. Aadya's collection succeeds in "beautifying" products not usually considered precious, combining natural materials with meticulous craftsmanship to create wearable designs.
