Adélie is a Textile graduate from the Royal College of Art. She specialises in knitted textiles and knitwear. As a designer, her practice is very concept driven. Her work touches upon sometimes difficult subjects such as mental health awareness. She uses performance and non-conventional knitwear construction to tell her story.
The aim of my project is to create a performance piece using knitwear that has a sense of movement and vulnerability. I touch upon the key themes of constriction and release and how this affects people’s emotions and movements. I feel it is imperative that within my work I talk about the problems of mental health and how this can have different effects on different people. Within the project, I use Solvron (dissolvable) yarn combined with my knitwear pieces to create work that tells my story and my relationship with my mindset. The work symbolises how people often go around their day with a protective layer shielding themselves through the stress of life. This changes when they step into the shower shedding this skin-like layer revealing their true selves and vulnerabilities.
