My current working is looking at themes of vulnerability in the human figure and uncertainty in the painting process. I am exploring contemporary portraits with a particular interest in the line between figurative and abstraction in painting. The current work is diaristic and there's a way for me to react and understand the things happening around me. My work is based on lived experiences as a starting point and from there I am interested in the fragmented and showing the process and the time in the work, to paint over areas and push the work to the point of almost undoing it. My work is exploring the interplay between reality, memory and my own experiences.
These are a series of portraits based on my own lived experiences. I use reference photographs of moments of my day to day life as a starting point and then I push these images into a new, different space, an imagined reality almost. I'm trying to make sense of my lived experiences while also showing the process in painting, my vulnerability in the struggle, and in the process of making the work. I'm interested in the fragmented and showing process and time in the work.
