This collection is inspired by my sister, Claúdia, she was born with Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes learning and physical disabilities. My sister has always been my inspiration throughout my life, she is the most genuine happiest person I know and even though her story is not the happiest, its not one to regret, but one to celebrate. I was inspired by her innocence in colour and pattern, although she is 26 years old, her brain still approaches life as if she was 8 and that is the motto I want to take for this collection. I decided to use waste socks to construct my garments with because of my sister´s relationship with socks. She has difficulty walking alone especially barefoot, therefore since I was young my mother always had a million of different colourful and fun socks for her to wear inside the house only, so it brings back my happy memories playing with my sister by the couch. The fashion industry already produces enough waste and socks always seem to be the neglected garment of choice therefore I decided to integrate mending techniques on top of the socks to represent the possibility of fixing garments that no longer fill its purpose. I partnered with the knitwear brand pantherella that produces socks in Leicester, they provided me with waste socks from the factory which means any socks that were damaged and couldn´t be sold this way we are preventing thoose socks from ending up in landfilds. his collection is all about family bounds and the love I have for my sister, I mend waste socks as a symbol of never giving up on anything.
A collection that explores individual creativity in an urge to escape society's rules. Inspired by military wear and their calculated lines, this collection comes to life to escape unity.
