Course / Program Title: Design BA (Hons)
I am a recent graduate who has achieved a 2:1 in BA(Hons) Fashion. A course which allowed me to practice design, pattern cutting and construction. I have gained skills in Adobe, especially Photoshop, Illustrator & Indesign. Using this software I am able to create design boards, tech flats and tech packs. In addition, I am competent in using industry level machinery including the lockstitch machine, overlocker & coverstitch machine.
During my course, I undertook a placement year as an Upcyclist and E-commerce assistant at Oxfam, where I reconstructed recycled fabrics/ garments to be sold online. In addition, during my year working at Oxfam I was able to raise over £10,000 for the charity to help people in need worldwide. Working at Oxfam gave me a wider knowledge of fabrics and a better understanding of sustainability in the fashion industry.
Circlecore is a collection inspired by Optical Art, especially Bridget Riley. The aim of this collection, is to distort society's perception of the female body and subvert the female body. Also inspired by Bakhtin's "grotesque theory" I created a collection that was oversized and fits every body, whilst creating a silhouette that isn't mostly desired by society. Looking at my collection, everyone will have a different notion of what I am expressing similar to how people view Optical Art. Circlecore also asks the question, Is There a Perfect Body?
As an extension of my Final Major Project, I created a streetwear collection aimed towards plus-sized women & Gen-Z. My streetwear collection focuses on using upcycled denim in order to create a sustainable brand, which I believe is lacking in the current market, especially for plus-sized women.
