Designing garments with a passion for sustainability, creativity and not taking it too seriously!
Meatloaf has an onstage presence and delivery that was so full of energy and fire that I couldn't help but try and harness it. Inspired by Jim Steinman's lyrics, Meatloafs performances onstage and in 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show', and a personal photoshoot I organised (taking notes from campy horror, vintage clowns and the song 'I'll kill you if you don't come back') the culmination of all this developed pieces full of fun and drama. Working within this concept is the fact that the collection is also made using sustainable practices, with all fabric being sourced second hand through donations, charity shops and online market places. I wanted to show that sustainability doesn't have to look one way, it can be dark and silly and over the top. Sustainability is the present and the future but that doesn't mean creativity and personality need to be left behind.
Using primary imagery of my cool mum; taken in the 80's when she was working as an actress in London mixed with classic 1980's American cinema. The combo is fun, romantic and nostalgic. Influencing the designs through a scrapbook approach of mixed and matched volume, shape and quirky heart motifs.
