About
Hi! I'm Catarina, a designer born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. I moved to London in 2017 to pursue my BA (Hons) in Illustration and Visual Media at the London College of Communication - University of the Arts London.
Art was always a passion of mine - my parents left me alone with colored pencils for way too long. I started my career as an illustrator, working with manual techniques and selling my work at independent art fairs. As I went further with my studies, I became more interested in visual communication and found my space within creative agencies, working mainly with graphic design, brand identity, and motion graphics. Cachaça is Brazil’s national spirit, and Velho Barreiro is one of the most popular Cachaça brands in Brazil, mainly for its accessible price point. However, their presence goes beyond the national borders. For my Final Major Project, I re-branded Velho Barreiro’s visual identity and label, targeting international audiences. Through the label design, my aim was to communicate Velho Barreiro’s main characteristics: an accessible, tropical spirit to be enjoyed socially. The branding elements, from illustrations to colour scheme, represent the spirit's Brazilian roots, and invite the consumer to explore Velho Barreiro's universe.
