About

American/German living in Ireland and absolutely passionate about textiles. My work blends my interest in life and surrounding nature with craftsmanship and technical explorations in textiles.

It takes a few seconds for someone’s life to change. It takes time to adapt and accept a new norm. My mum became ill. She is my star and rock. In this time of chaos and change I looked back at my childhood finding key moments in my life that shaped me and define who I am today. These moments stand like pillars in the middle of water that I can hold on to. They give me strength, protection, and motivation. They knit together, forming the textile of my life. Being thankful in adversity became a feeling I nurtured during this time and made me more aware of the beauty in everyday life. Returning to the basics like being able to see the blue sky, seeing the grace of nature in roses, and feeling the warm sun. I collaborated with AppleOak FiberWorks, a natural dyeing company that also uses rainwater, to learn natural dyeing techniques. They kindly let me use their studios to work in. I naturally hand dyed the wool and silk of my collection and made natural screen-printing inks to print the roses seen in my collection. I focused on four colours. Each colour, or key moment, portrays a different mood, character and attitude, painting the range of emotions I experienced over the last year - red bleeds my anger and passion, blue seeps the melancholic and empathy, white reflects the grey in the unknown and yellow illuminates the happiness and positivity. I have created shaped knitting patterns so that only the yarn ends remain as waste. In these knitting patterns I have taken into account the shrinkage of the fabric in length and width during shirring and smocking to create sample size 12 garments. I transformed my yarn and silk into thoughtful, robust explorations in textiles. The 3D element of my textures is to create a space between the wearer and the outside world, a protective shell. My textures contrast positive and negative space to embody the complexity of life’s realities. The metal fixtures showcase me grasping onto things that are fracturing. Born from a live wake-up call to gratitude and positivity, this collection gives the person wearing it that extra sense of protection and strength, while also making them feel special and beautiful. The element of movement is enhanced by the silk. My work is grounded on appreciation, acceptance and being steadfast in adversity.
