Analog film
On a short visit to the seaside , I came upon tar in the shape of an egg that contained the entire sea . The encounter with the egg left me speechless . It told me to look closer ; I saw how the tar that washes ashore clings to every seashell and rock on its journey to solidification . In these photos , I seek to stop and look at passing . things ; the visible current . For everything is swept along in ceaseless motion , and we can pass by the ball of tar as we pass by everyday things , but we can also stop , linger , and wonder at how even garbage falls into form . I watch things as they are : Not telling the live from the inanimate , the natural from the artificial , or the known from the unknown , and not needing a preexisting organizing narrative , biographical anchors , or defining and dividing conceptualizations . Just as in haiku poetry things are permitted to remain transitory , random , delicate , so does the film negative accept what the eye sees , and I do not adapt the image to changing conditions . In this age of climate crisis , the eye sees a breakdown that is difficult to understand and take in . But this breakdown makes me wish to document everything , from fish carcasses washing ashore to a decapitated date palm to take photos while roaming a space that may become uninhabitable . The books I've created incorporate excerpts from the work of my brother Yonadav , with whom I share the walks and the thoughts that attempt through words to approach what is .
