About
I am an interdisciplinary textiles practitioner and facilitator, with a specialism in woven textiles.
My work explores the interconnections between history, community and craft, and how political, economic and cultural circumstances affect the ways and reasons we create art.
I use woven textiles as a medium to communicate different historical narratives, taking inspiration from architecture, nature and urban form, all of which which, I feel, tell the story of a place’s history. The colours, shapes and patterns of my work derive from my own surroundings and working with people from various community groups allows me to incorporate various perspectives into my work, making it more inclusive.
'Manchester: A Woven Community' is a celebration of the weaving industry and community in Manchester. Inspired by the shapes and colours of Manchester's green spaces, architecture and community spaces, this collection has influences of 19th Century tapestries and motifs. Using predominantly natural materials such as merino lambswool and pima cotton, this tactile collection is a joy to the senses. I have worked with various community groups across Manchester throughout my time at University, and have been inspired by the stories and experiences of those who have lived in the city, choosing visual stimuli which have connections with Manchester's community.
