Final year textile student at Glasgow school of art specialising in weave. My practice is influenced by traditional painting styles such as realism and cubism, using these styles to inform and guide my design process. My work explores still life and botanical subject matter, developing designs and patterns i have translated into woven textiles. I produce my woven fabric on jacquard and dobby looms, produced for interior environments.
My project explores the intersection between traditional painting techniques, such as realism and cubism, and contemporary textile design, using the jacquard loom to translate complex visual forms into woven fabrics. By reinterpreting still life and botanical subjects through the lens of Cubism, I aim to challenge conventional approaches to both painting and textile design, while investigating the power of colour, abstraction, and composition. I have used shaded satin structures on the jacquard to realistically evoke the sense of painterly depth and shadowing in my designs, utilising my knowledge of jacquard programming.
