Eating Flowers is a work in progress textile collection that considers the concept of the sublime in landscape and the tradition of Celtic Twilight and the inherent romanticism attached to certain landscapes. I use embroidery to explore the crossovers between design, sensory experience, emotions and memory. The documenting of my trip to remote Scottish islands led me to develop Eating Flowers as a intersection between my interests in slow design principles, favouring slow or detailed processes of embroidery, viewing textiles as objects of longevity, and an investigation in marrying couture fashion with sensory interaction and emotional meaning. My designs focused on illustrative texture, material qualities of translucency, opacity and intense stitch work. Colour for the collection was inspired through the tonal layering and inversion of the shades of landscape in my drawing, an emotional rather than literal translation of colour. I visualise my textiles within fashion, adorning the body as a new landscape for textures, structures, colours and translucencies to play over and interact with.
