As an ambitious final year fashion design student specialising in knitwear, I am intrigued in the experimental process through using a variety of yarns and machinery to create unique effects within knitted fabric. I am also passionate about how these can then be used within garments to create designs that stand out and modernise knitwear.
This project was a live brief to create a 12 piece capsule collection for the Ellesse SS24 Sartoria range. My concept juxtaposes ballet and ski and explores how people out-grow their interests and move onto something new. This led to me re-interpreting key athleisure pieces such as tracksuits, outerwear and cropped styles whilst merging knitwear with waterproof fabrics
This project is about how our homes make us whole. They create comfort and hold nostalgia and memories of the past. Our homes are an extension of ourselves and the place we feel most comfortable. The project explores what is used to create a homely feel to create comfort as well as nostalgic memories I hold onto of a previous home I grew up in, reinforcing how houses can contain the past. It also looks at the idea of the items in your home being over-loved, worn-down and mended, showing the appreciation for the items we own. “Our homes contain us, but they are also within us. They can represent places to be ourselves, to recollect childhood memories” - Imogen Racz, Art and the Home: Comfort, Alienation and the Everyday.
This project is about how memories fade and distort over time and how they often feel like a dream, as if they never happened. It focuses on when my Granny lived in Norfolk, looking into the nostalgia of having holidays there and the interiors of her house with a 1970s feel. In order to demonstrate this concept through knit, I have distorted knitwear into unusual shapes. I have done this by using boning to defy the abilities of knitted fabrics, taking inspiration from florals and lampshades in a warped way.
