My name is Haevn Aalbersberg, I make sculptural installations where I use my personal story (like growing up in a Pentecostal Church and my gender transition) as a medium. Using traditional materials like ceramics or stained glass and putting them in a contemporary setting. By doing this, I hope to be a voice for people with similar backgrounds. Currently, I am focusing on my transition, where I observe and try to understand Western contemporary masculinity from an outsider's point of view, who is increasingly becoming one with the phenomenon.
All this manifested in a ongoing project called "Truckspotting" where this term has become a symbol for my exploration throughout the years.
From observing and wanting to partake in the phenomenon “masculinity,” to slowly integrating with the bros as their transition brought them closer to their true self. Alongside this, the work reflects on their upbringing in a Pentecostal church, where there was little room for self-exploration. Liberating themselves and exploring the world on their own pace is what created “truckspotting”. Truckspotting: Is a continuous project about self exploration and understanding, through observing and creating.
