About
Joseph has been shooting photography his whole life but really started taking it seriously in his junior year of high school. The philosophy behind Joseph’s work is an unrelenting belief that images from ordinary vision can be re-contextualized through the optic of photography to illuminate concepts and elements that would otherwise be neglected. The images that move him to grab his camera are subtle, evocative, and multifaceted. He loves working with others and shooting pictures that inspire.
Joseph has had his work published in Reveille and Labelless Landscapes. His images have also been exhibited at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center, Plaza Arts Center, Mason Fine Art, The Bakery Atlanta and SCAD.
He is currently a graduate student at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Kara was here is a documentation of writings and engravings found on the wooden guard rail at Amicalola Falls in Dawson County, Georgia. It fascinated me that as I was climbing up the hundreds of feet of stairs, nobody around me seemed to really care about the lives being documented right by their side. Why would they? They couldn’t feel their pulse, they couldn’t see their face, and they couldn’t hear their voice. The lives documented were not decoded as human beings that were present because the documentation itself is a form of Simulacrum.
