I am Kieran Jamieson, a London-based textiles artist specialising in printed textiles. My practice explores the intersection of mindfulness, art and textiles craft methods as a means of promoting wellbeing and sustainability.
‘Crafting mindfulness’ emerges from introspective engagement with lived experience and a soulful connection to the natural world, exploring the intersection of mindfulness and textile craft. Using a variety of processes, including both traditional artisan craft methods and digital design, a hand-rendered aesthetic reflects an appreciation for slow fashion, craftsmanship, and textile circularity. This approach is rooted in my own mindful journey with creative expression and a commitment to sustainability. The project engages with the theories of mindfulness and textiles to support well-being, particularly through its ability to cultivate emotional awareness via a calm, guided process. I developed this into a series of community outreach projects through UAL’s London College of Fashion Culture events, guiding participants in mindfulness-based art and textile techniques, using tactile interaction to support emotional regulation. This work was expanded through ongoing collaborations with Newham Council’s library outreach programmes, creating community cohesion and shared emotional narratives through mindful textile practices. Workshop titles included What’s Your Baggage, Capturing Mindful Presentness, and The Narratives We Share. This project aligns with the ‘Cultural and Social Impact’ category through my active community work, commitment to environmental responsibility, sustainable materials and craftmanship, and understanding of mindfulness as a foundation for personal and collective wellbeing.
