About

Hello! I'm Leila, a specialist in woven textiles with a passion for sustainability. I studied at the Winchester School of Art, where I honed my skills and developed a deep appreciation for the art of weaving. Beyond my studies, I run art and craft classes, such as macramé and lino printing, for festivals and private sessions as I love to teach.

My journey in art has been shaped by my dedication to craftsmanship and my belief that luxury can be both beautiful and sustainable. Completing the University of Southampton's Foundership Program was a pivotal moment in my career, equipping me with the knowledge to start my own business and refine my skills in digital marketing and branding.

I'm deeply inspired by the rich, deep hues and detailed textiles found in 19th-century oil paintings, particularly those by Ford Madox Brown. The burnt umber, burnt sienna, and rich orange tones in his work resonate with me and influence my color choices and design aesthetics. I also draw inspiration from the intricate interiors of 1920s Rolls Royce and Bugatti cars, as well as modern collaborations like Singer's reupholstered Porsches.

Craftsmanship is at the heart of my work. I weave fabrics thread by thread, maintaining complete control over the design process. My techniques include extra warp, double cloth, and weft designs, and I use various media such as gouache, pastels, watercolour, lino printing, collage, drawing, spray painting, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Architecture, especially European cathedrals, inspires my designs. I mimic the shapes and patterns found in stone masonry, creating structures reminiscent of cathedral windows. This architectural influence, combined with my dedication to sustainability, defines my unique artistic style. My work reflects this, intertwining historical and modern opulence to create a blend of retro sophistication.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. I invite you to explore my portfolio and join me in celebrating the timeless beauty and luxury of craftsmanship. Feel free to reach out if you love my work!

Lux Aeterna is a project dedicated to exploring the essence of timeless luxury through woven textiles. Drawing inspiration from the rich, deep hues of 19th-century oil paintings by Ford Madox Brown and the intricate interiors of 1920s Rolls Royce and Bugatti cars, the project merges historical opulence with contemporary design. Techniques such as extra warp, double cloth, and weft designs are included, alongside a diverse palette of materials. The result is a collection that embodies classic sophistication and modern elegance, celebrating the enduring beauty and craftsmanship of luxurious textiles.
