About

Hey! I'm Madeleine Macdonald, I am a BA hons Fashion Design graduate from Birmingham City University. Inspirations of mine are biomaterials and textile practices, sustainability and high quality performance wear. Personal experiences, family culture and travel have shaped my creative outlook. I have advanced knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as well as draping, pattern cutting and sewing. I have 6 years sewing experience, specialising in womenswear, I am a keen learner and always up for new challenges.

Alpine ravin' crew is a collection based on snow sports and 90's rave culture. I looked into famous 90's dance music band; the prodigy, and have used primary research images and personal heritage of skiing trips to collate fun, sexy and ready to rave (alpine style) garments. The final outcomes from this project were the two final outfits produced in final year of university. The collection incorporates waste fabric and sport specific fabric and detailing. Print development was based on thermal imaging and has been developed throughout this project through sampling and experimentation through a variety of materials and designs.

A capsule collection of designs using boro textiles prints and recycled denim. This was inspired and used as an application for a womenswear streetwear company. The collection looks at medieval Japanese up-cycling techniques and how they can be used today to bring a sustainable alternative to denim design within the industry. The textiles technique is also used as a print to bring more modernity to the collection.

Catch of the day

Specialisms:

Menswear Apparel

Catch of the day is part of my final year body of work for university. The collection delves into the culture of sea fishing and my personal experiences with fishing off the North Wales coast, history of fashion around this activity has stimulated design features whilst combining contemporary styles and colour ways in order to create a modern menswear collection. With recycled materials from donated deadstock wetsuits and old sea ropes, this collection incorporates elements of sustainability.

A collection inspired by hong kong in the 90's. Military references through the black watch regiment, evolved into tartan style prints used within the designs. Recycled denim was also used to incorporate sustainable elements of design. The line junk was designed to appeal to a younger female 'city girl', with sporty features whilst keeping a contemporary twist on utilitarian styles.
