About

Noam Dee is a photographer based in London. Her work lies at the intersection between the personal and the political, exploring themes around memory, identity and trauma. Noam works primarily with analogue photography as her preferred medium, often incorporating text alongside her images.

‘Along the Narew River’ imagines a journey along the river that my great-grandfather used to recall from his childhood in Poland, a river that connected his birthplace to that of my great-grandmother. It was largely inspired by Henri Raczymow’s notion of ‘non-memory’, which refers to the “unfillable symbolic void” that exists within Jewish memory; one that was created and maintained by the scale of Nazi destruction. The solarised images illustrate an attempt to fill in this void through constructed memory, alluding to the natural landscapes of Eastern Europe while actually depicting Hampstead Heath.
