Philippa Palmer’s current collection explores the power of red and what emotions the colour evokes within the couture fashion industry. This new work takes inspiration from the history and psychological effect of the colour. Her is work material and concept led, using a range of traditional hand embroidery techniques in a contemporary style. She dreams of working in couture fashion focusing on embroidery and embellishments. Inspired by the power of this colour Philippa chose to explore a range of approaches to this theme throughout her collection. Gathering research from many different angles, including the history, the scientific research, the modern day approach and the fashion perspective. All lend themselves to the view we now have on the colour red. Taking inspiration from the red carpet and the concept of creating a spectacle for viewers inspired her practice, the idea of linking both spectacle and emotion to create a powerful effect on viewers. Research has been gathered through a combination of articles, exhibitions and studies that have led her to this outcome.
