Hi! I’m Sam Jelier (She/They), a dutch illustrator and designer based in Utrecht. I love creating colourful illustrations about little critters and writing fantasy stories. My current focus is making art around nature, history, and science subjects. I love a research intensive project and challenging myself to combine knowledge and art.
I graduated from St. Joost school of Art & Design where I studied “Illustrated & Animated Storytelling" in 2025.
I also have a degree in Graphic design with a minor in Illustration from the Grafisch Lyceum in Utrecht.

A part of something bigger. A collection of small creatures that live among us. This book is a love letter to the small inhabitants of our world. But small is relative. From microbes to whales, we are all part of the grand system we call life. Each illustration is paired with a poem written by various poets, sourced from multiple decades. One even hails from the first century B.C. to show that humans have always been observing the world around us. I hope it shifts the way you see the creatures around us, helps you find romance in the mundane, and welcomes you into a world of small, whatever that means to you.
