About
Shir Hadad (b.1997) is a metalsmith and designer-maker. She holds a B.Des. from the Jewelry and Fashion Department at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, where she also worked as a teaching assistant in both pattern making and stone setting. Her work focuses on traditional metal techniques such as forging, raising, and casting, which she uses to create functional and ceremonial objects. Shir approaches design through hands-on processes. She is interested in how movement, repetition, and material resistance influence form. Her objects often emphasize the connection between the body and the act of making.
Her work was exhibited internationally at UNFOLD, Milan Design Week (2025), and at the Eye Level exhibition at the Premieres Festival. She is a recipient of several awards, including the Blanche and Romie Shapiro Judaica Award and the Reshbel Prize for Academic Excellence.
This work explores the connection between ritual, memory, and physical action. It was inspired by the act of extracting scent from myrtle leaves – a gesture rooted in personal experience. Each tool in the series invites touch and movement, emphasizing the body’s role in creating meaning. The emotional drive stemmed from a desire to slow down, pause, and reexamine habitual gestures – to give attention to what is often automatic, and to transform it into an intentional, sensory experience. Traditional silversmithing techniques such as forging, raising, and casting were used in the making of these objects.
