As a Knitted Textiles designer, I have always had an affinity towards the use of vibrant and dynamic colours within my work, harmoniously combined with pattern and structure. Throughout my academic journey, I have always drawn on metaphorical inspiration for my work, with the overarching theme being the Human experience. I have delved into the realms of memory, emotion and connection. I draw from my own personal experiences and use those metaphorical narratives to inspire my work. The aim for my work is to spark as sense of joy in the viewer, and hopefully unit both viewer and work, fostering a shared sense of community and belonging. Central to my artistic philosophy is the concept of ‘radical optimism’, which is a thread which ties all of work together! I always endeavour for my work to promote positivity and have an interactive quality, whether that be through their dynamic movement, large scale or innovative shape!
In my final collection I drew inspiration from human connection, weaving together nostalgic memories from my vibrant Indian heritage and my cherished childhood memories of Lisbon. Through the exploration of traditional patterns, colours and motifs representative of my cultural heritage and childhood experiences, I aim to create meaningful connections between individuals and their shared experiences and this is ultimately my creative aim.
This project is inspired by the theme of Human Connection where I have reflected on my own childhood experiences and memories to express a sense of “radical optimism” throughout my work. My work expresses the connections between my Indian heritage, my Portuguese nationality as well as my British upbringing. I aim for my work to spark a sense of joy in the viewer and for my memories to hopefully allow them to access their own!
