About

Hello! I am Victoria Saffell, a senior in Fibers at Savannah College of Art and Design. My main interests are felting soft sculptures and surface design. I have always been drawn to creating sculptures since I was young. I started with using cardboard, tape, and clear wrap.
My favorite medium is wet and needle felting. The material has so many possibilities and structures it can take. It has a freeing malleability.
The same could be said for pattern design. Patterns are more structured but there is an immediate change of feeling in the different color ways and coordinate patterns. I am able to use my my many drawings to create new exciting motifs and textures. I also enjoy the reality of pattern design. They can be printed on different fabrics and materials over and over again. I am also experienced in creating mock ups for my pattern collections.

Thank you for visiting my page!

Victoria Saffell reflects natural life in a comfortable yet grim way by merging dark perspectives with bright colors and soft textures. The story of Little Red Riding Hood has greatly inspired her throughout her craft, sparking her interest in darker themes of survival and character narratives. In her collections, she draws inspiration from song lyrics and incorporates them into her work titles. Her current musical inspiration comes from Cosmo Sheldrake’s song “Come Along Now.” Victoria Saffell’s evolving collection, Cuddle Up, combines soft sculpture and surface design, showcasing her skills from Savannah College of Art and Design. As she delves into the predator-prey dynamic, survival emerges as a captivating theme for Victoria. It's the immediate, instinctual conflict that piques her interest. Within her art, she explores the predators lurking in the deep waters, fascinated by their variations of spikes, teeth, tendrils, eyes, and stingers. Each of these features serves a crucial purpose, enhancing their survival instincts with every movement. Through her creations, she seeks to transform the wearer into a predator of the depths, serving as a reminder that we, too, are predators lurking for a chance to attack.
