This project is inspired by the CULTUS exhibition, which primarily presents light reflection and sound wave. Taking light and shadow as cues, I found that neon phenomena often appear in first-tier cities, with Shanghai, China, being my hometown. Combined with the popular drama "Bloomless Shanghai" aired in 2024, which depicts 1990s Shanghai, geometric patterns such as fireworks, flowers, and screens were inspired by this TV series. To explore light and shadow around me, I visited Kew Garden's light show, Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirror Room exhibition, and observed reflections in the lake, enriching my research direction. The purpose of this project is to visualize the dynamics of light and shadow through embroidered fabrics. In this project, I primarily utilize blending threads, different colors of chiffon, beads, etc., combining them through stacking and blending to demonstrate the intertwining effects of light and shadow. Digital embroidery is the core technique of the entire project, supplemented by techniques such as dye sublimation, hand beading, smocking, and three-dimensional embroidery.
