Kia ora, I’m Will, a recent Industrial Design graduate from Massey University. I live in Wellington, New Zealand but am originally from a small rural town in Central Otago. Outside of work, I enjoy anything that gets me outdoors; travelling, mountain biking, and sport as well as art, music, and movies. I’m driven by curiosity and a passion for practical problem-solving.
With the goal of encouraging more people to embrace cycling as everyday transport, I set my focus to a group of individuals identified as ‘interested but concerned.’ These are people who want to cycle more but feel too unsafe to do so. Through unpacking cycling safety concerns, a key contributor revolved around visibility. I recognised that bicycle lighting crucially impacts a cyclists ability to see and be seen, and by developing this aspect, I could address a significant portion of the visibility issues faced. My solution is INSYTE, a practical safety companion for cyclists. INSYTE is a three-part lighting system designed for those who feel vulnerable on the road. Inspired by the comfort and safety of cycle lanes, it empowers riders to “take the lane with you.” Combining a front and rear light with a handlebar remote, INSYTE offers convenience, connectivity, and confidence, ensuring cyclists feel noticed in any environment
